2011: AsteroSPHERES
In 2011 Zero Robotics introduced many cooperative components into their competition. Teams had to work together to win, develop a robot-to-robot communication protocol as a community, and form alliances in the finals.
Game Background:
The game consisted of the robots orbiting around virtual “asteroids” or “drilling” them to collect points. If two teams worked together on the same asteroid they would both gain more points than either one could alone. Teams had to choose whether or not to expend time and energy melting a frozen asteroid which netted more points or to immediately mine the lower-point value asteroid. The challenge was that programs had to communicate with each other and decide on a course of action early in the game.

Final Results:
This year Plasma ranked 8th place in the world during the 3D competition.
